Driveshaft

The drive shaft is used to transmit power from the engine to the gear unit.

Both ends are connected by means of flexible coupling elements, which compensate shocks caused by starting and braking of the drive.
The shaft body is made of carbon or steel, while the coupling halves are often made of steel or stainless steel. They are fastened to the engine or gearbox journal by means of a tongue and groove in some cases also by means of a tapered seat.
